Trace the source. Reconstruct the method.
Test the claim. Understand the people.

Our research in Chinese mantic arts and the Yijing is built on source tracing, repeatable procedures, version comparison and discussion of limits.

INDEXPAGE CONTENT

What we study, how we study it and what the work produces.

This page separates subjects, procedures, long-term projects and output standards so that an abstract claim to research never substitutes for material, method and responsibility.

A reproducible research process of grouped yarrow stalks, line records and measuring tools

01Research matrix

Eight long-term research directions

From text to algorithm, object to society, Chinese context to global translation: every project states its material, edition, method and limits.

01YIJING

Yijing text and interpretation

Study layers of text and Wings, Han, Wang Bi, Song, Qing and modern excavated traditions.

02MANUSCRIPTS

Excavated mantic manuscripts

Oracle inscriptions, numerical hexagrams, Chu silk, Qin-Han daybooks, boards and Dunhuang manuals.

03TIME

Astronomy, calendars and time

Separate observations, calculations, political calendars and astrological interpretation; reconstruct stems, seasons and months.

04METHOD

Structural and comparative method

Decompose Six Lines, Plum Blossom, Qimen, Taiyi, Liuren and fate systems into input, rules, inference and output.

05OBJECTS

Objects and spatial culture

Study bones, yarrow, cosmic boards, compasses, almanacs, site manuals, maps and orientation.

06SOCIETY

Social history and living traditions

Examine roles in family, commerce, migration, rites, community, religion and modern media.

07EVIDENCE

Efficacy narratives and empirical study

Separate retrospective cases, prospective records, selection bias and reproducible tests; publish scoring rules first.

08GLOBAL

Translation, digital archives and circulation

Build terminology, edition genealogies, corpora, bilingual annotation and open education.

02Method

A six-step research method

Name → establish edition → date → reconstruct → compare → evaluate. Every step leaves an auditable record.

  1. 01

    Name

Separate same-name different arts and different-name same arts; record Chinese, aliases, pinyin and preferred translation.

  2. 02

    Establish edition

State edition, fascicle, base text, facsimile source and significant variants.

  3. 03

    Date

Separate a person's dates, textual composition, surviving witness and modern edition.

  4. 04

    Reconstruct

Rewrite formulas as steps, marking inputs, constants, exceptions and school choices.

  5. 05

    Compare

Compare region, period, lineage, text and cases instead of making one route stand for the whole.

  6. 06

    Evaluate

Assess historical value, internal coherence, empirical support and ethical risk separately.

03Research projects

Core research projects

The institute organizes priority work through a project system with research leads, collection partners, peer review, version records and publication rules.

01
Core knowledge program

Panoramic atlas

A bilingual graph of systems, branches, texts, people, concepts and historical nodes.

↗
02
Comparative research

Comparative Three Boards

Compare epochs, palaces, rotating boards, agents and host-guest models across Taiyi, Qimen and Liuren.

↗
03
Public textual guide

Guide to excavated mantic texts

A reliable public pathway into oracle bones, numerical hexagrams, daybooks, boards and Dunhuang.

↗
04
Terminology standard

Terminology and translation standard

Record aliases, historical semantics, preferred equivalents and concepts that resist literal translation.

↗
05
Method and data standard

Transparent algorithms and case registry

Versioning, timestamps, anonymization and pre-registration for charts and efficacy claims.

↗
06
Oral history and fieldwork

Global oral history

Document practitioners, regional differences and modern transformation with informed consent.

↗

What may represent the institute

01

Traceable

Dates, texts, editions and quotations return to identifiable sources.

02

Repeatable

Another researcher can reproduce the procedure using the same version.

03

Open to disagreement

Schools, gaps and uncertainty remain visible instead of being flattened by authority.

04

Responsible

Protect privacy, consent and autonomy; do not create fear or dependence on certainty.
